Real Men Don’t Bash Dead Teenagers

Trayvon Martin would have been 18 today.  Some sicko decided to “celebrate” by defaming him.

A Mr. Todd Kincannon, former GOP chairman from South Carolina tweeted during the Super Bowl:

This Super Bowl sucks more dick than adult Trayvon Martin would have for drug money.
– Quoted from Wonkette

Right, so the first thing I thought was that this guy must have knocked back too many brews while watching the game, this liberating his tongue and fingers to type all sorts of inner thoughts, uninhibitedly.  An apology or a retraction of the tweet is forthcoming, right?

Wrong.

On HuffPost Live Monday, Kincannon defended his tweets, claiming that they were nothing more than satire, but that they highlight just how politicized the Trayvon Martin case has become.

“The left has decided that Trayvon Martin was just this perfect little angel,” Kincannon said. “He was a thug. He tweeted about drug use. This guy, he was a criminal, and the left has decided to make him some sort of martyr. That is what I don’t understand.”
– Huffington Post

So first we have a satire defense, which is rather flimsy and only proves that Kincannon’s first job isn’t stand up.  And if it is, then he needs to hang on to his day job.

Second, we have Kincannon stating that because Trayvon used drugs some time during his short life, this justifies all the abuse he’s heaping upon him. Oh, and let’s call him a cocksucker while we’re at it, to add a little homophobia to the mix.  To me, that line is akin to when the lynch mob cut the balls off their dead victims, and flailed the detached testicles triumphantly in the air.

If anyone needs an example of how the GOP is completely detached from reality, this is a good start.  Sick clowns such as this Kincannon person should never have been in charge of anything.  If he represents the face of the modern GOP, then heaven help the party.  If other GOPers don’t launch an immediate and deafening tirade against this man, then heaven help the party.

Because if they don’t denounce him loudly, then they are giving him a pass which he certainly does not deserve.  No mature human being would defame a dead teenager, near his birthday no less when his family is still in mourning, and then defend his childishness as “free speech.”  That’s not maturity.  That’s not free speech.  That is brazen cowardliness buttressed by perceived privilege.

Todd Kincannon has a lot to answer for.  And then, once he comes to his senses, he needs to just go away.
